PetSafe In-Ground Fence System

PetSafe In-Ground Fence SystemThe PetSafe In-Ground Fence System is an easy to install and easy to use containment solution for your dog. This all-in-one system includes a transmitter, 152m of wire, 50 flags, a receiver collar + battery, and a detailed Operating and Training Guide. The lightweight, waterproof receiver collar is suitable for dogs over 3.6kg and with a neck measurement between 15 – 71cm. The collar has multiple levels of static stimulation which can be selected to best suit your dog. As your dog approaches the boundary wire, the collar issues a tone. If your pet proceeds past that point, they will receive a safe but startling static stimulation. You can buy additional receiver collars separately and the containment system can have unlimited receiver collars to one transmitter. Batteries are expected to last about 1-2 months, however if you give us a call we can order a Rechargeable Receiver Collar for you which can be recharged at home.

PetSafe explain the 4 Steps to a contained pet:

1. Plan Your Layout:

This product contains 152m of wire which can be buried or run along existing fences. You can even protect garden beds, or prevent access to pools, in addition to your boundary. If the included length of wire is not enough for your plans – we also have Extra Wire & Flags available which provides an additional 152m of wire. You can cover up to ⅓ acre with the contents of this box, and with additional wire you can cover many acres with one system. PetSafe have a wire calculator tool to help in your planning.

2. Install Your System:

The included manual has detailed instructions on multiple options for installation to best suit your property. It also includes important safety information to protect you and your dog, so please read it carefully.

3. Place The Collar on Your Pet Correctly:

  • Adjust the fit of the collar before installing the battery.
  • Place the unit against the front of your dog’s neck and adjust the collar until you can snugly fit one finger between the tip of a contact point and your dog’s skin.
  • Leave it on for a few minutes and then recheck the fit.
  • The collar should be as loose as possible whilst still providing good contact.
  • The excess can be trimmed off once you have found a good fit. Remember to account for a young dog growing bigger or a thick winter coat depending on the breed.
  • Mark the desired length with a pen.
  • Remove the collar from your dog and trim the excess.
  • Seal the cut collar with a flame/lighter along the frayed edge.

4. Train Your Dog:

The included manual provides detailed instructions for training your dog to understand the In-Ground Fence System. Training takes place over a 2 week period, and during this time your dog should not be left with the collar on unless under direct supervision. Part of the training involves the flags, a temporary visual indicator of boundary lines for your dog. Once done training, you can remove the flags. If you change or expand boundaries, install flags again for a short time to assist your dog in understanding the changes.

Tips & Tricks:

  • Wash the dog’s neck area and the contacts of the collar weekly with a damp cloth – be sure both are fully dry before putting the collar back on.
  • Check the contact points are still attached tightly each week. And screw them tighter if needed.
  • Be careful to avoid damage to the insulation of the wire during installation – this may cause areas of weak signal and lead to early failure of the loop.
  • When mowing or trimming grass be careful not to cut the wire.

Safety:

  • Please don’t leave the collar on for more than 12 hours a day.
  • Whenever you can – reposition the collar every 1 to 2 hours of wear.
  • Never connect a lead to the receiver collar.
  • Do not test the system while your dog is wearing the receiver collar.
  • Dial before you dig to ensure you are not at risk of hitting underground cables when burying the boundary wire.
